Project Description
THE ANDROID PULS TABLET
DEUTSCHE TELEKOM

BRIEF
Deutsche Telekom launched the Puls tablet. This tablet allows customers to navigate the full range of digital services offered by Deutsche Telekom. Customers can easily watch television content, check their voicemails and control their smart homes all from one device. To develop the software of the Puls, Deutsche Telekom appealed to a team of four Mediaan Android developers. “Working with Mediaan was a home run. Within 5 weeks, they designed and delivered the first Puls prototype”, says Max Reichert, Deutsche Telekom. Our team guided and supported Deutsche Telekom in numerous areas:
Prototyping
Requirement engineering
UI/UX design
Development
System integration

THE CONCEPT
It all started with an invitation to participate in the Telekom’s “beauty contest“ for developing a new consumer device. Deutsche Telekom asked several suppliers to showcase their capabilities by providing their ideas for the new tablet.

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE
Deutsche Telekom was faced with the challenge of merging two different experiences: the services of Deutsche Telekom with the standard Android interface. Developing a tablet that not only fulfills these tasks but is also entertaining and user-friendly has proved to be a major task for designers and developers.
MEDIAAN IN ACTION
To develop the software of the Puls, Deutsche Telekom appealed to a team of four Mediaan Android developers and one UX designer. The team used the techniques listed below.
Rapid prototyping
Android
UI/UX design

A/B testing

WHAT OTHERS SAY…
“We already knew Mediaan to be a competent and reliable partner: they delivered our Speedtest application in 2014. The Speedtest is a critical application for us with thousands of visitors each month. Mediaan delivered the application for a fixed price from start to GoLive in a really short period of just three months. We worked agilely with the Mediaan team using scrum. The experience and result were positive. That’s why we asked Mediaan to participate in the beauty contest.”– Max Reichert, Deutsche Telekom
“The Puls is more than just a tablet to us. It’s an entirely new way for us to engage and be in touch with our customers. Innovating by developing these new digital products is essential to us. Mediaan had the expertise and experience we needed to go from a good idea to a finished product that our customers love. Also the fact that working with Mediaan is fun is an extra cherry on top.” – Max Reichert, Deutsche Telekom

RESULTS
Using specific Android components, Mediaan managed to deliver a working prototype in just 5 weeks. From that point on, Mediaan was involved in the development of Puls. Deutsche Telekom is very satisfied with the result and the user reviews indicate the project was a total success. The first batch of the tablet was completely sold out within just 3 months.
