We’re excited to share insights from our latest collaborative project with Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, the Visi-Age project. The goal of this initiative was to investigate how artificial intelligence can improve the quality of life for seniors who rely on care. This project brought together three teams of students from diverse study fields — AI, application development, and cloud & cybersecurity — to address this important topic. Join us as we delve into the project’s journey and its outcomes!

Project overview

The goal was to develop a comprehensive, tailored solution for seniors, their loved ones and caregivers. The solution should be non-intrusive yet effective, encompassing not just fall detection but also broader monitoring of seniors’ health and social engagement. Key features include the ability to detect coughs, track movement activities, and analyze social interactions by counting the number of visitors, ensuring a comprehensive overview of the elderly’s overall well-being. Following an initial analysis phase in the first semester, the teams dedicated three weeks to develop a Proof of Concept (POC), which they successfully demonstrated, accompanied by three engaging promotional videos!

Growing collaboration

In recent years, our collaboration with universities has grown from a one-man operation to a team effort. We are proud to have facilitated a rewarding experience for the students, leaving them with a sense of accomplishment and a positive view of their involvement with Mediaan Conclusion.

“Thank you so much for the creative assignment, your input, guidance and evaluation of our students. Especially the reliable professional involvement!” – Supervising lecturer from Thomas More

Most importantly, students from Thomas More had a great time and also received additional training in critical thinking, presentation skills and collaboration, not only within their group but across multiple groups. Resulting in an improvement in both their technical and soft skills.

We look forward to continuing this journey, exploring new ways AI can serve our communities and nurturing the next generation of tech innovators!
